Uses / Indications

Gudcef-O Dry Syrup is prescribed for children (pediatric use) to treat bacterial infections like:

  • Respiratory tract infections: pneumonia, bronchitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis, pharyngitis

  • ENT infections: otitis media, sinus infections

  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

  • Skin & soft tissue infections: abscess, cellulitis, wound infections

  • GI tract infections caused by susceptible bacteria


Mechanism of Action

  • Cefpodoxime (3rd gen cephalosporin):

    • Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis → weakens & kills bacteria

    • Broad-spectrum activity against Gram-positive & Gram-negative bacteria

  • Specially designed for pediatric bacterial infections


Dosage & Administration

  • Children: Dose based on body weight (mg/kg/day) in 2 divided doses, as per pediatrician’s advice

  • Reconstitution: Add boiled & cooled water to the dry powder up to the marked line → shake well until uniform suspension forms

  • Shake well before each use

  • Administer using the provided measuring spoon/dropper

  • Give after meals for better absorption

  • Use reconstituted syrup within 7–10 days (store in refrigerator if advised)


Side Effects

  • Common: diarrhea, nausea, stomach upset, mild rash

  • Rare: headache, dizziness, oral thrush (fungal infection)

  • Severe (rare): persistent diarrhea (C. difficile), jaundice, allergic reaction
