Uses / Indications

Clarithro 250 XL Tablet is prescribed for mild to moderate bacterial infections, including:

• Respiratory tract infections – bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis

• ENT infections – ear, nose & throat bacterial infections

• Skin & soft tissue infections – cellulitis, folliculitis, abscesses, impetigo

• Helicobacter pylori infection (as part of triple therapy with PPI + Amoxicillin/Metronidazole)

• Mycobacterial infections (including atypical mycobacteria in immunocompromised patients)

Mechanism of Action

• Clarithromycin (Macrolide antibiotic):

  • Binds to 50S ribosomal subunit of bacteria

  • Inhibits bacterial protein synthesis → stops bacterial growth (bacteriostatic)

  • Effective against Gram-positive, Gram-negative & atypical bacteria

• XL Formulation (Extended Release): Provides steady drug levels → allows once-daily dosing for better compliance

Dosage & Administration

• Adults & Children (≥12 years): Usually 250–500 mg once daily, as prescribed by doctor
