Uses / Indications

Cefakind 50 Dry Syrup is prescribed for infants and children in mild to moderate bacterial infections, such as:

  • Respiratory tract infections: pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia

  • Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) infections: otitis media, sinus infections

  • Urinary tract infections (UTI)

  • Skin & soft tissue infections: cellulitis, abscess, wound infections

  • Post-operative infections


Mechanism of Action

  • Cefuroxime (2nd generation cephalosporin antibiotic):

    • Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis

    • Leads to bacterial lysis & death (bactericidal)

  • Effective against a broad range of Gram-positive & Gram-negative bacteria


Dosage & Administration

  • Children (Infants & Pediatric use):

    • Usual dose: 20–30 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses, as prescribed by pediatrician

  • Reconstitution:

    • Add boiled & cooled water up to the mark on bottle → shake well to form suspension

    • Shake well before each use

    • Use provided measuring spoon/cup for correct dose

  • Give after meals for better absorption

  • Use within 7–10 days after reconstitution


Side Effects

  • Common: diarrhea, nausea, mild stomach pain, headache

  • Rare: rash, oral thrush, dizziness, vaginal yeast infection

  • Severe (rare): allergic reaction, antibiotic-associated diarrhea (C. difficile infection)


Precautions & Warnings

  • Use only under pediatrician’s prescription

  • Not effective for viral infections (cold & flu)

  • Avoid in children with known allergy to cephalosporins or penicillins

  • Use cautiously in kids with kidney or liver impairment

  • Discard leftover suspension after 7–10 days
