Uses / Indications

Cefakind-CV 325 Tablet is prescribed for mild to moderate bacterial infections, such as:

  • Respiratory tract infections: sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia

  • ENT infections: ear, nose, and throat bacterial infections

  • Urinary tract infections (UTI): cystitis, pyelonephritis

  • Skin & soft tissue infections: cellulitis, abscess, wound infections

  • Bone & joint infections

  • Post-operative infections

  • Mixed bacterial infections caused by resistant organisms


Mechanism of Action

  • Cefuroxime (Cephalosporin antibiotic): Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial death (bactericidal)

  • Clavulanic Acid (Beta-lactamase inhibitor): Blocks bacterial enzymes (beta-lactamases) that make bacteria resistant to antibiotics → enhances cefuroxime’s effectiveness

  • Combined Effect: Provides strong, broad-spectrum coverage against both Gram-positive & Gram-negative bacteria


Dosage & Administration

  • Adults: 1 tablet twice daily, or as prescribed by doctor

  • Children (>12 years): Dose depends on weight; pediatric suspension recommended for younger children

  • Should be taken after meals to improve absorption

  • Duration: typically 5–14 days, depending on type and severity of infection


Side Effects

  • Common: nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache

  • Rare: rash, oral thrush, dizziness, mild liver enzyme changes
