Uses / Indications

Cefakind-CV 625 Tablet is prescribed for moderate to severe bacterial infections, including:

  • Respiratory tract infections: pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis

  • ENT infections: otitis media, throat & sinus infections

  • Urinary tract infections (UTI): cystitis, pyelonephritis

  • Skin & soft tissue infections: cellulitis, abscesses, wound infections

  • Bone & joint infections

  • Post-operative infections

  • Resistant bacterial infections where standard antibiotics fail


Mechanism of Action

  • Cefuroxime (2nd generation cephalosporin antibiotic): Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis → causes bacterial death (bactericidal)

  • Clavulanic Acid (Beta-lactamase inhibitor): Blocks bacterial enzymes that destroy antibiotics → restores and enhances cefuroxime activity

  • Combined Effect: Strong coverage against both Gram-positive & Gram-negative bacteria, including resistant strains


Dosage & Administration

  • Adults: 1 tablet twice daily, or as prescribed by physician

  • Children (>12 years): Dose depends on weight; pediatric suspension recommended for younger children

  • Take after meals for better absorption

  • Duration: usually 7–14 days, depending on infection severity


Side Effects

  • Common: diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, headache

  • Rare: rash, oral/vaginal yeast infection, dizziness, mild liver enzyme changes

  • Severe (rare): allergic reaction, antibiotic-associated diarrhea (C. difficile), jaundice
