Uses / Indications

Tenepride 20 mg Tablet is used in the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus:

• As monotherapy in patients not controlled by diet & exercise alone

• In combination with other antidiabetic medicines (metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin) when single therapy is insufficient

• Helps in reducing both fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels

Mechanism of Action

• Teneligliptin (DPP-4 inhibitor):

  • Inhibits the DPP-4 enzyme → increases incretin hormones (GLP-1, GIP)

  • Stimulates insulin secretion (when glucose is high)

  • Suppresses glucagon secretion → lowers hepatic glucose output

  • Provides good control of post-meal sugar spikes

• Advantage: Low risk of hypoglycemia when used alone

Dosage & Administration

• Adults: Usually 20 mg once daily, with or without food

• May be combined with metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin if needed

• Dose adjustments required in patients with severe kidney or liver impairment (avoid in end-stage cases)

• Swallow whole with water – do not chew or crush

• Common: headache, constipation, mild hypoglycemia (when combined with sulfonylureas/insulin)
