Description: Ondem 4 mg Injection contains Ondansetron, an antiemetic medicine that prevents nausea and vomiting. It works by blocking serotonin (5-HT3) receptors in the brain and gastrointestinal tract, which trigger vomiting. It is widely used in patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or surgery.

Uses:

• Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting

• Radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting

• Post-operative nausea and vomiting

• Severe nausea/vomiting due to other medical conditions (as advised)

Dosage & Administration:

• Adults: 4–8 mg IV/IM before chemotherapy/surgery; may repeat every 8–12 hrs if needed.

• Children: Dose based on body weight/age as prescribed.

• Route: Slow IV injection or IM.

Side Effects: Headache, constipation, dizziness, injection site pain, fatigue. Rare: allergic reactions, low blood pressure, QT prolongation (irregular heartbeat).

Precautions:

• Avoid in patients allergic to Ondansetron or other 5-HT3 antagonists.

• Use with caution in patients with heart rhythm disorders, liver impairment, or electrolyte imbalance.

• Safe in pregnancy/lactation only if prescribed by doctor.

Drug Interactions:

• Contraindicated with apomorphine (severe hypotension risk).

• Risk of irregular heartbeat with QT-prolonging drugs (e.g., amiodarone, quinidine).

• May interact with serotonergic drugs (SSRIs, SNRIs, tramadol) → serotonin syndrome risk.
