Description: Lasix Injection contains Furosemide, a loop diuretic that removes excess fluid from the body by increasing urine output. It is widely used in the management of edema (fluid retention) associated with heart failure, liver disease, kidney disease, and in emergencies like hypertensive crisis or pulmonary edema.
Uses:

Edema due to congestive heart failure

Edema in chronic kidney disease and liver cirrhosis

Acute pulmonary edema (fluid in lungs)

Supportive therapy in fluid overload conditions
Dosage & Administration:

Adults: 20–40 mg IV/IM; may be increased depending on response.

Severe cases: Higher doses or IV infusion as prescribed.

Route: Slow IV injection, IV infusion, or IM (rarely used).
👉 Dose must be individualized and monitored by physician.
Side Effects: Increased urination, dehydration, low blood pressure, dizziness, electrolyte imbalance (low potassium, sodium, magnesium), headache, muscle cramps. Rare: hearing disturbances (ototoxicity), allergic reactions.
Precautions:

Avoid in patients with severe dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, or allergy to sulfonamides.

Use with caution in kidney disease, liver cirrhosis, diabetes, gout, and elderly patients.

Monitor electrolytes, kidney function, and blood pressure regularly.

Pregnancy/lactation: Use only if prescribed.
Drug Interactions:

Increased risk of low potassium with steroids, digoxin, amphotericin B.

May enhance ototoxicity with aminoglycosides.

May increase effect of antihypertensives (low BP).

NSAIDs may reduce diuretic effect.
