Uses / Indications

Cefakind 100 DT Tablet is prescribed for mild to moderate bacterial infections, especially in children, such as:

  • Respiratory tract infections – tonsillitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia

  • Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) infections – otitis media, sinus infections

  • Urinary tract infections (UTI)

  • Skin & soft tissue infections – cellulitis, boils, wound infections

  • Post-operative infections


Mechanism of Action

  • Cefuroxime (2nd generation cephalosporin antibiotic):

    • Binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) in bacteria

    • Inhibits cell wall synthesis → causes bacterial death (bactericidal)

  • Effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria


Dosage & Administration

  • Children: Dose depends on weight (usually 20–30 mg/kg/day in divided doses), as prescribed by pediatrician

  • Adults (if prescribed): 100–250 mg twice daily, depending on severity

  • How to use:

    • Disperse tablet in a teaspoon of water → mix & give immediately

    • Can also be swallowed whole with water

  • Best taken after food for better absorption

  • Duration: usually 5–10 days, as prescribed


Side Effects

  • Common: diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, headache

  • Rare: rash, dizziness, oral thrush, vaginal yeast infection

  • Severe (rare): allergic reactions, antibiotic-associated diarrhea (C. difficile)


Precautions & Warnings

  • Use only under doctor/pediatrician’s prescription
