Uses / Indications

Cefakind-CV 200 Tablet is prescribed for mild bacterial infections, such as:

  • Respiratory tract infections: tonsillitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, mild bronchitis

  • ENT infections: ear (otitis media), nose & throat infections

  • Urinary tract infections (UTI) – cystitis

  • Skin & soft tissue infections: cellulitis, boils, wound infections

  • Post-operative infections (mild cases)

  • Mixed infections caused by resistant bacteria


Mechanism of Action

  • Cefuroxime (Cephalosporin antibiotic): Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial death (bactericidal)

  • Clavulanic Acid (Beta-lactamase inhibitor): Blocks enzymes that cause resistance, making cefuroxime more effective

  • Combined Effect: Provides broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, effective against resistant strains


Dosage & Administration

  • Adults & Children >12 years: 1 tablet twice daily, or as prescribed

  • Children (<12 years): Pediatric suspensions preferred instead of tablets

  • Best taken after meals for better absorption

  • Duration: usually 5–10 days, depending on infection type


Side Effects

  • Common: nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache

  • Rare: skin rash, oral thrush, dizziness, mild liver enzyme changes

  • Severe (rare): allergic reaction, antibiotic-associated diarrhea (C. difficile)


Precautions & Warnings

  • Use only under doctor’s prescription

  • Avoid if allergic to cephalosporins, penicillins, or clavulanic acid
