Uses / Indications

Cefakind-CV 250 Tablet is prescribed for mild to moderate bacterial infections, such as:

  • Respiratory tract infections: bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis

  • Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) infections – otitis media, sinus infections, throat infections

  • Urinary tract infections (UTI): cystitis, pyelonephritis

  • Skin & soft tissue infections: cellulitis, boils, abscesses, wound infections

  • Bone & joint infections

  • Post-surgical infections

  • Mixed bacterial infections where resistance is suspected


Mechanism of Action

  • Cefuroxime (Cephalosporin antibiotic): Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis → causes bacterial lysis & death (bactericidal)

  • Clavulanic Acid (Beta-lactamase inhibitor): Prevents breakdown of cefuroxime by resistant bacteria → enhances antibiotic effect

  • Combined Effect: Effective against a wide range of resistant Gram-positive & Gram-negative bacteria


Dosage & Administration

  • Adults: 1 tablet twice daily, as prescribed

  • Children (>12 years): Dose depends on weight; pediatric suspension preferred for younger children

  • Should be taken after meals for better absorption

  • Duration: typically 5–10 days, depending on infection type


Side Effects

  • Common: diarrhea, nausea, abdominal discomfort, headache

  • Rare: rash, dizziness, oral/vaginal yeast infection
