Uses / Indications

Cefakind-CV Dry Syrup 30 ml is prescribed for children in bacterial infections like:

  • Respiratory tract infections: pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis

  • Ear infections (otitis media)

  • Urinary tract infections (UTI): cystitis, pyelonephritis

  • Skin & soft tissue infections: cellulitis, boils, abscesses, wound infections

  • Post-surgical infections

  • Infections resistant to standard antibiotics


Mechanism of Action

  • Cefuroxime (Cephalosporin antibiotic): Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial death (bactericidal)

  • Clavulanic Acid (Beta-lactamase inhibitor): Blocks enzymes that cause antibiotic resistance, enhancing cefuroxime’s effect

  • Combined Effect: Strong action against both Gram-positive & Gram-negative bacteria, including resistant strains


Dosage & Administration

  • Children: Usually 20–30 mg/kg/day (calculated on cefuroxime component), divided into 2 doses, as per pediatrician’s prescription

  • Reconstitution:

    • Add boiled & cooled water up to the mark → shake well to form suspension

    • Shake well before each dose

    • Use provided measuring cup/spoon for accurate dosing

  • Give after meals for better absorption

  • Use within 7–10 days after reconstitution; discard leftover syrup after that


Side Effects

  • Common: diarrhea, nausea, abdominal discomfort, headache

  • Rare: rash, dizziness, oral thrush, vaginal yeast infection

  • Severe (rare): allergic reaction, antibiotic-associated diarrhea (C. difficile), liver enzyme elevation


Precautions & Warnings
