Uses / Indications
Gudcef 200 Tablet is prescribed for treatment of bacterial infections, including:

Respiratory tract infections: pneumonia, bronchitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis

Ear, nose & throat (ENT) infections

Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

Skin & soft tissue infections: cellulitis, abscess, wound infections

Gonorrhoea (uncomplicated cases)

Bone & joint infections (in some cases, under specialist advice)
Mechanism of Action
-
Cefpodoxime (3rd gen cephalosporin):
-
Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis → weakens cell wall → kills bacteria
-
Active against both Gram-positive & Gram-negative bacteria

Works well in infections resistant to older antibiotics
Dosage & Administration

Adults: 1 tablet every 12 hours, as prescribed by physician

To be taken with food for better absorption

Complete the entire prescribed course (do not stop early even if symptoms improve)
Side Effects

Common: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset

Rare: headache, dizziness, rash, itching

Severe (rare): persistent diarrhea (C. difficile infection), liver enzyme changes, allergic reaction
Precautions & Warnings

Use only on doctor’s prescription

Not effective against viral infections (cold, flu)

Caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment

Avoid in patients allergic to penicillins or cephalosporins

May reduce oral contraceptive effectiveness → advise alternate contraceptives during course
