Uses / Indications

Gudcef-CV 200 Tablet is prescribed for bacterial infections such as:

  • Respiratory tract infections: pneumonia, bronchitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis

  • Ear, nose & throat infections (otitis media, sinus infections)

  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

  • Skin & soft tissue infections (cellulitis, abscess, wound infection)

  • Bone & joint infections

  • Gonorrhoea & other susceptible bacterial infections


Mechanism of Action

  • Cefpodoxime: 3rd generation cephalosporin antibiotic → inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis → kills bacteria

  • Clavulanic Acid: β-lactamase inhibitor → prevents bacterial resistance → boosts Cefpodoxime’s effectiveness

  • Combined Effect: Broad-spectrum action against resistant bacterial strains


Dosage & Administration

  • Adults: 1 tablet every 12 hours (depending on infection severity)

  • To be taken after meals for better absorption & less gastric upset

  • Must complete full course as prescribed by doctor → prevents resistance


Side Effects

  • Common: diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain

  • Rare: rash, itching, headache, dizziness, oral/vaginal fungal infection

  • Severe (rare): persistent diarrhea (C. difficile), liver enzyme elevation, severe allergic reaction


Precautions & Warnings

  • Use only on doctor’s prescription

  • Not effective for viral infections (flu, cold)

  • Caution in patients with:

    • Kidney or liver impairment

    • History of allergy to penicillin or cephalosporins

  • May reduce oral contraceptive pill effectiveness → advise alternate contraceptives during course

  • Pregnant & breastfeeding women: use only if prescribed
