Uses / Indications

Gudcef-CV 325 Tablet is prescribed for treatment of bacterial infections such as:

  • Respiratory tract infections: pneumonia, bronchitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis

  • ENT infections: otitis media, sinus infections

  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

  • Skin & soft tissue infections: cellulitis, abscess, wound infections

  • Bone & joint infections

  • Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like gonorrhoea (in select cases)


Mechanism of Action

  • Cefpodoxime: A 3rd generation cephalosporin → inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis → bactericidal

  • Clavulanic Acid: β-lactamase inhibitor → prevents resistance → enhances efficacy of Cefpodoxime

  • Combined Effect: Strong, broad-spectrum action against resistant bacterial strains


Dosage & Administration

  • Adults: 1 tablet every 12 hours, or as prescribed by physician

  • To be taken with food for better absorption

  • Must complete full course to prevent relapse or resistance


Side Effects

  • Common: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain

  • Rare: headache, dizziness, rash, itching, oral/vaginal fungal infection

  • Severe (rare): liver enzyme elevation, persistent diarrhea (C. difficile infection), allergic reaction


Precautions & Warnings

  • Use only on doctor’s prescription

  • Not effective for viral infections (cold, flu)

  • Caution in patients with:

    • Kidney or liver disease

    • Allergy to penicillin or cephalosporins

  • May reduce effectiveness of oral contraceptives → advise extra birth control

  • Pregnant & lactating women: use only if clearly prescribed
