Uses / Indications

Gudcef-CV Dry Syrup is prescribed for children to treat bacterial infections such as:

  • Respiratory tract infections: pneumonia, bronchitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis

  • ENT infections: otitis media, sinus infections

  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

  • Skin & soft tissue infections (abscess, cellulitis, wound infection)

  • Bone & joint infections


Mechanism of Action

  • Cefpodoxime (3rd gen cephalosporin): Kills bacteria by inhibiting cell wall synthesis

  • Clavulanic Acid: Inhibits β-lactamase enzyme → prevents resistance → enhances cefpodoxime effect

  • Combined Effect: Potent against resistant bacterial strains in pediatric infections


Dosage & Administration

  • Children: Dose based on body weight (mg/kg/day), usually given every 12 hours as advised by pediatrician

  • Reconstitution: Add boiled & cooled water to the dry powder up to the marked line, shake well

  • Shake well before each use

  • Administer with measuring cup/syringe provided

  • Complete full course even if child feels better


Side Effects

  • Common: diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, mild rash

  • Rare: fungal infections, dizziness, liver enzyme elevation

  • Severe (rare): persistent diarrhea (C. difficile), jaundice, allergic reaction


Precautions & Warnings

  • Use only under pediatrician’s prescription

  • Not effective for viral infections (flu, cold)

  • Caution in children with liver/kidney disease or history of drug allergy

  • Store reconstituted suspension in refrigerator (2–8°C)

  • Use within 7–10 days after mixing; discard leftover
