Description: Orofer-S Injection contains Iron Sucrose, an injectable form of iron used to treat iron deficiency anemia (IDA). It helps restore depleted iron stores in the body, supports hemoglobin formation, and improves oxygen transport. It is commonly given to patients who cannot tolerate or respond to oral iron therapy.

Uses:

• Iron deficiency anemia

• Anemia in chronic kidney disease (CKD)

• Post-partum anemia in women

• Patients intolerant or unresponsive to oral iron supplements

• Anemia associated with chronic illness or long-term blood loss

Dosage & Administration:

• Adults: Dose based on hemoglobin level and iron deficiency (commonly 100–200 mg IV 2–3 times per week).

• Route: Slow IV injection or IV infusion, never IM.

• Must be given in hospital/clinic setting under medical supervision.

Side Effects: Injection site pain, headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, metallic taste. Rare: hypotension, chest pain, shortness of breath, allergic reactions.

Precautions:

• Avoid in patients with iron overload (hemochromatosis) or anemia not caused by iron deficiency.

• Use with caution in liver disease, infections, or asthma.

• Test dose may be required to rule out hypersensitivity.

• Safe in pregnancy/lactation if prescribed by doctor.

Drug Interactions:

• Oral iron therapy should not be taken simultaneously (reduced absorption).

• May interact with other IV iron preparations.

• Inform doctor about all ongoing medicines.
