  • Telmisartan 40 mg


Uses / Indications

Telpres 40mg Tablet is prescribed for:

  • Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – standard and widely prescribed strength.

  • Reduces long-term risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney complications.

  • Protects kidneys in patients with Type 2 Diabetes and high BP.

  • Can be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensives like diuretics or calcium channel blockers.


Mechanism of Action

  • Telmisartan belongs to the class Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs).

  • Blocks the effect of angiotensin II → prevents narrowing of blood vessels.

  • Relaxes and dilates blood vessels → reduces blood pressure.

  • Improves blood flow and reduces the workload on the heart.


Dosage & Administration

  • Usual adult dose: 40 mg once daily.

  • Depending on response, dose may range from 20 mg to 80 mg daily.

  • Can be taken with or without food.

  • Take at the same time every day.

  • Do not stop treatment suddenly without doctor’s advice.


Side Effects

Common side effects:

  • Dizziness, lightheadedness

  • Headache, fatigue

  • Stomach upset, diarrhea

  • Muscle cramps, back pain

Serious but rare:

  • Very low blood pressure (hypotension)

  • High potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

  • Impaired kidney function
