Composition

Each tablet contains:

  • Telmisartan 40 mg (Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker – ARB)

  • Amlodipine 5 mg (Calcium Channel Blocker – CCB)


Uses / Indications

Telvas-AM 40/5 Tablet is prescribed for:

  • Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – when BP is not controlled by a single medicine.

  • Reducing long-term risk of stroke, heart attack, and kidney complications caused by high BP.

  • Useful in patients with Type 2 Diabetes, CKD, or cardiovascular risk factors.


Mechanism of Action

  • Telmisartan (ARB): Blocks angiotensin II → prevents blood vessel narrowing → lowers BP.

  • Amlodipine (CCB): Relaxes and widens blood vessels by blocking calcium entry → improves circulation & reduces heart strain.

  • Combined effect ensures better and sustained blood pressure control.


Dosage & Administration

  • Usual adult dose: 1 tablet once daily.

  • Should be taken at the same time each day.

  • Can be taken with or without food.

  • Do not discontinue without medical advice.


Side Effects

Common side effects:

  • Dizziness, headache

  • Swelling of ankles/feet (from Amlodipine)

  • Fatigue, weakness

  • Stomach upset, flushing

Serious but rare:
