Uses / Indications

Unwanted Kit is used for:

• Medical termination of intrauterine pregnancy up to 63 days (9 weeks) of gestation

• Induces abortion without the need for surgery (under medical supervision)

Mechanism of Action

1. Mifepristone:

   • Progesterone receptor antagonist → blocks progesterone, the hormone needed to maintain pregnancy

   • Causes detachment of the embryo from uterine wall

2. Misoprostol:

   • Prostaglandin E1 analog → induces uterine contractions & cervical dilation → expels pregnancy tissue

Dosage & Administration

• Step 1: Take Mifepristone 200 mg orally (Day 1)

• Step 2: After 24–48 hours, take Misoprostol 200 mcg × 4 tablets buccally (in cheeks), sublingually, or vaginally as per doctor’s advice

• Complete abortion usually occurs within 24 hrs of Misoprostol

• Follow-up visit after 7–14 days is essential to confirm complete abortion by ultrasound

(Self-use without doctor’s guidance is not recommended due to risk of incomplete abortion & complications.)

Side Effects

• Common: abdominal cramps, heavy bleeding, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness, weakness

• Rare but serious: excessive bleeding, incomplete abortion, infection, fever, pelvic pain

Precautions & Warnings

• Should be taken only under medical supervision

• Contraindicated in:

  • Ectopic pregnancy

  • Chronic adrenal failure

  • Severe anaemia or clotting disorders

  • Allergy to Mifepristone/Misoprostol

• Not to be used beyond 9 weeks of pregnancy

• Emergency medical help needed if bleeding is excessive (soaking >2 pads per hour for 2–3 hrs)
