Generic Name: Voglibose 0.2 mg + Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg
Category: Oral Anti-Diabetic (Alpha-Glucosidase Inhibitor + Biguanide Combination)
Description:
Vogli-M 0.2/500 mg Tablet is a combination anti-diabetic medicine used to manage Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. It contains Voglibose (an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor) and Metformin (a biguanide).
-
Voglibose (0.2 mg): Works by delaying the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates in the intestine, which prevents a sharp rise in blood sugar after meals.
-
Metformin (500 mg): Reduces glucose production in the liver, slows glucose absorption from the intestines, and improves insulin sensitivity.
Together, these two medicines provide better control of blood sugar levels, especially postprandial (after meals), and help prevent diabetes-related complications.
Uses:
-
Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in adults
-
Helps control post-meal blood sugar spikes
-
Prevents long-term complications of diabetes such as kidney damage, nerve damage, and heart disease
Mechanism of Action:
-
Voglibose: Inhibits alpha-glucosidase enzyme → delays carbohydrate breakdown → lowers post-meal blood sugar
-
Metformin: Lowers hepatic glucose production, enhances insulin sensitivity, slows intestinal glucose absorption
-
Combined effect: Improves overall blood glucose control (fasting + postprandial)
Dosage & Administration:
-
Usually taken 1 tablet twice daily with meals (as prescribed by doctor)
