Description:

Amaryl M 1 mg/500 mg Tablet is a combination medicine used to treat Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. It contains two anti-diabetic agents:

• Glimepiride (1 mg): A sulfonylurea that lowers blood sugar by stimulating the pancreas to release more insulin.

• Metformin (500 mg): A biguanide that decreases glucose production in the liver, slows glucose absorption from the intestines, and improves the body’s sensitivity to insulin.

Together, they provide better blood sugar control, help reduce complications of diabetes, and improve long-term outcomes.

Uses:

• Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (when diet, exercise, and single-drug therapy are not enough)

• Prevention of diabetes complications such as kidney damage, nerve damage, heart disease, and eye problems

Mechanism of Action:

• Glimepiride: Stimulates pancreatic beta cells → increases insulin secretion → lowers blood sugar

• Metformin: Reduces hepatic glucose production, improves insulin sensitivity, delays intestinal glucose absorption

• Combined effect: Controls both fasting and post-meal blood sugar levels effectively

Dosage & Administration:

• Usually taken once or twice daily with meals (doctor decides exact dose)

• Take with food to reduce stomach upset and risk of hypoglycemia

• Swallow whole with water; do not crush or chew

• Regular monitoring of blood sugar is required

Common Side Effects:

• Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) – sweating, dizziness, hunger, irritability

Serious Side Effects (rare):
