Composition

Each tablet contains:

• Amlodipine Besylate equivalent to Amlodipine 10 mg

Uses / Indications

Amlovas 10mg Tablet is prescribed for:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – for patients not controlled on 5 mg dose.

• Angina Pectoris (chest pain due to restricted blood flow to the heart).

• Coronary Artery Disease (CAD).

• Prevention of long-term complications such as heart attack, stroke, and kidney damage caused by high BP.

Mechanism of Action

• Amlodipine is a Calcium Channel Blocker (CCB).

• Relaxes and widens the blood vessels → reduces resistance and blood pressure.

• Improves oxygen supply to heart muscles → prevents angina episodes.

• Decreases strain on the heart.

Dosage & Administration

• Usual adult dose: 5–10 mg once daily.

• 10 mg once daily is the maximum recommended dose.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Should be taken at the same time daily.

• Do not skip doses or stop suddenly without medical advice.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Swelling of ankles/feet (edema)

• Headache, dizziness, flushing

• Palpitations (fast heartbeat)

• Fatigue, weakness

Serious but rare:

• Severe drop in blood pressure

• Worsening of angina (rare during early treatment)

• Allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)

Precautions & Warnings

• Caution in patients with:

  • Liver impairment

  • Heart failure

  • Low blood pressure

• Avoid alcohol (can worsen dizziness).

• Pregnant and breastfeeding women: use only if prescribed.

• May cause dizziness → avoid driving or operating machinery if affected.

Drug Interactions

• Other antihypertensive medicines

• Antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole)

• Antibiotics (clarithromycin, erythromycin)

• Grapefruit juice (increases side effects)
