Composition

Each tablet contains:

• Amlodipine Besylate equivalent to Amlodipine 5 mg

Uses / Indications

Amlovas 5mg Tablet is prescribed for:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – helps in long-term BP control.

• Angina Pectoris (chest pain due to reduced blood supply to heart muscles).

• Coronary Artery Disease (CAD).

• Prevents complications like heart attack, stroke, and kidney damage caused by uncontrolled BP.

Mechanism of Action

• Belongs to the class of Calcium Channel Blockers (CCBs).

• Relaxes and widens blood vessels → lowers blood pressure.

• Increases oxygen supply to the heart → prevents chest pain.

• Reduces strain on the heart and improves blood circulation.

Dosage & Administration

• Usual adult dose: 5 mg once daily.

• If required, may be increased to 10 mg once daily (maximum).

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Should be taken at the same time daily.

• Do not skip doses or stop suddenly without doctor’s advice.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Swelling of feet/ankles (edema)

• Headache, dizziness

• Flushing, palpitations

• Fatigue

Serious but rare:

• Severe drop in blood pressure

• Worsening of angina (rare during initial therapy)

• Allergic reaction (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)

Precautions & Warnings

• Caution in patients with:

  • Liver disease

  • Heart failure

  • Very low blood pressure

• Avoid alcohol (may worsen dizziness).

• Pregnant and breastfeeding women should use only if prescribed.

• May cause dizziness → avoid driving if affected.

Drug Interactions

• Other antihypertensive medicines

• Antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole)

• Antibiotics (clarithromycin, erythromycin)

• Grapefruit juice (can increase side effects)
