Composition

Each tablet contains:

• Amlodipine Besylate equivalent to Amlodipine 10 mg

Uses / Indications

Amtas 10mg Tablet is prescribed for:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – when the 5mg dose is not enough.

• Angina Pectoris (chest pain due to reduced blood supply to the heart).

• Coronary Artery Disease (CAD).

• Long-term prevention of heart attack, stroke, and kidney complications linked with uncontrolled blood pressure.

Mechanism of Action

• Belongs to the class of Calcium Channel Blockers (CCBs).

• Relaxes and widens blood vessels → lowers resistance & blood pressure.

• Improves oxygen delivery to the heart muscles → prevents angina.

• Reduces workload on the heart and improves circulation.

Dosage & Administration

• Usual adult dose: 5–10 mg once daily.

• 10 mg once daily is the maximum recommended dose.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Should be taken at the same time daily.

• Do not stop suddenly without medical supervision.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Swelling of ankles/feet (edema)

• Headache, dizziness, flushing

• Palpitations (fast heartbeat)

• Fatigue, weakness

Serious but rare:

• Severe fall in blood pressure

• Worsening of angina during initial therapy (rare)

• Allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)

Precautions & Warnings

• Use carefully in patients with:

  • Severe liver disease

  • Heart failure

  • Low blood pressure

• Avoid alcohol (may increase dizziness).

• Pregnant & breastfeeding women: use only if prescribed.

• Can cause dizziness → avoid driving or using heavy machinery if affected.

Drug Interactions

• Other antihypertensive medicines

• Antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole)

• Antibiotics (clarithromycin, erythromycin)

• Grapefruit juice (may increase side effects)

Storage

• Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C.

• Keep away from sunlight & moisture.
