Composition

Each tablet contains:

• Amlodipine Besylate equivalent to Amlodipine 5 mg

Uses / Indications

Amtas 5mg Tablet is used for the treatment of:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – helps reduce BP and prevent complications.

• Angina Pectoris (chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart).

• Coronary Artery Disease (CAD).

• Prevents long-term risks of heart attack, stroke, and kidney damage due to uncontrolled BP.

Mechanism of Action

• Belongs to Calcium Channel Blockers (CCBs).

• Relaxes the smooth muscles of blood vessels → lowers blood pressure.

• Improves oxygen delivery to heart muscles → prevents angina attacks.

• Reduces heart’s workload and strain.

Dosage & Administration

• Usual adult dose: 5 mg once daily.

• If needed, dose may be increased to 10 mg once daily (maximum).

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Should be taken at the same time daily.

• Do not stop treatment suddenly without consulting your doctor.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Swelling of ankles/feet (edema)

• Headache, dizziness, flushing

• Palpitations (fast heartbeat)

• Fatigue

Serious but rare:

• Severe drop in blood pressure

• Worsening angina (rare during early treatment)

• Allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)

Precautions & Warnings

• Use with caution in patients with:

  • Severe liver disease

  • Heart failure

  • Very low blood pressure

• Avoid alcohol (may increase dizziness).

• Pregnant and breastfeeding women should take only if prescribed.

• May cause dizziness → avoid driving or operating machinery if affected.

Drug Interactions

• Other blood pressure medicines

• Antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole)

• Antibiotics (clarithromycin, erythromycin)

• Grapefruit juice (may increase side effects)
