Uses / Indications

Aten 50mg Tablet is prescribed for:

  • Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)

  • Angina (Chest Pain due to reduced oxygen supply to the heart)

  • Arrhythmias (Irregular Heartbeats)

  • Heart Attack (Myocardial Infarction) – treatment & prevention of recurrence

  • Heart Failure (select cases with monitoring)

  • Migraine prevention (off-label)

  • Anxiety-related palpitations (off-label)


Mechanism of Action

  • Atenolol is a Beta-1 Selective Blocker.

  • Slows heart rate and reduces heart’s pumping force → lowers BP.

  • Decreases oxygen demand of the heart → relieves angina.

  • Stabilizes irregular heart rhythms.

  • Reduces the workload on the heart, offering long-term cardiovascular protection.


Dosage & Administration

  • Usual adult dose: 25–100 mg daily (single or divided dose).

  • 50 mg once daily is a standard maintenance dose for hypertension and angina.

  • Can be taken with or without food.

  • Should be taken at the same time every day.

  • Do not stop suddenly – may cause rebound hypertension, chest pain, or arrhythmia.


Side Effects
