Composition

Each tablet contains:

• Losartan Potassium 50 mg

Uses / Indications

Cozaar 50mg Tablet is prescribed for:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – most commonly prescribed strength.

• Heart Failure – improves symptoms and increases survival.

• Diabetic Nephropathy – protects kidneys in patients with Type 2 Diabetes & high BP.

• Reduces long-term risk of stroke and cardiovascular complications in high-risk patients.

Mechanism of Action

• Losartan belongs to the class Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs).

• Blocks angiotensin II hormone → prevents narrowing of blood vessels.

• Relaxes and widens arteries → lowers blood pressure.

• Improves blood circulation, reduces heart workload, and protects kidneys.

Dosage & Administration

• Usual adult dose: 50 mg once daily.

• Depending on response, dose may be increased to 100 mg once daily (single or divided dose).

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Take at the same time daily.

• Do not discontinue suddenly without medical advice.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Dizziness, headache

• Weakness, fatigue

• Stomach upset

• Low blood pressure

Serious but rare:

• High potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

• Kidney function problems

• Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)

Precautions & Warnings

  • Electrolyte imbalance (high potassium)

Drug Interactions

• Other antihypertensive drugs (additive effect)

• Potassium supplements / potassium-sparing diuretics

• NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac – may reduce effect & affect kidneys)

• Lithium (risk of toxicity)
