Uses / Indications

• Gynecological Conditions

  • Endometriosis (relieves pelvic pain, reduces endometrial tissue growth)

  • Fibrocystic breast disease (benign breast pain & nodularity)

  • Menorrhagia (heavy menstrual bleeding, off-label)

• Hematological Disorders

  • Hereditary angioedema (to prevent swelling attacks)

Dosage (General Guidance)

(As per physician’s prescription)

• Endometriosis: 200–800 mg/day in divided doses for 3–6 months

• Fibrocystic breast disease: 100–400 mg/day in divided doses

• Hereditary angioedema: 200 mg 2–3 times daily, then maintenance 200 mg daily

Side Effects

• Weight gain, acne, oily skin

• Hoarseness or deepening of voice (irreversible in some cases)

• Hirsutism (excess hair growth)

• Menstrual disturbances (amenorrhea, irregular cycles)

• Mood changes, headache

• Rare: Liver dysfunction, thromboembolism

Precautions / Warnings

• Contraindicated in: Pregnancy, breastfeeding, severe liver/kidney/heart disease, androgen-dependent tumors

• Use with caution in women (may cause virilization)

• Monitor liver function tests and lipid profile during prolonged therapy

• Avoid in children unless prescribed for hereditary angioedema

• May reduce fertility during use

• Warfarin (↑ anticoagulant effect)
