Description: Deriphyllin Injection is a combination of Etofylline and Theophylline. It works as a bronchodilator by relaxing airway muscles, improving airflow, and reducing breathing difficulty. It is used in the management of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and other respiratory conditions associated with bronchospasm.

Uses:

• Asthma (acute and chronic attacks)

• Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

• Bronchitis and emphysema

• Breathing difficulty due to airway obstruction

• Adjunct therapy in respiratory diseases

Dosage & Administration:

• Adults: Dose individualized (commonly 0.3–0.5 ml/kg slow IV injection or as prescribed).

• Children: Dose calculated as per weight and condition.

• Route: Slow IV injection/infusion (preferred) or IM.
  👉 Dose must be strictly prescribed and monitored by doctor.

Side Effects: Nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, restlessness, abdominal pain, increased heart rate, tremors. Rare: seizures, irregular heartbeat, low BP.

Precautions:

• Avoid in patients allergic to xanthines (theophylline, caffeine).

• Use with caution in heart disease, hypertension, seizures, liver/kidney impairment, thyroid disorders.

• Smoking and alcohol may reduce effectiveness.

• Pregnancy/lactation: Use only if clearly prescribed.

Drug Interactions:

• Increased toxicity with macrolide antibiotics (erythromycin, clarithromycin), ciprofloxacin, cimetidine.

• Reduced effect with phenytoin, rifampicin, carbamazepine, smoking.

• Additive heart stimulation with beta-agonists (salbutamol).
