Description: Dexona Injection contains Dexamethasone, a corticosteroid medicine with strong anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant action. It is widely used in emergency care and chronic conditions for reducing swelling, allergic reactions, and immune overactivity. It is also used in certain cancers and critical illnesses like shock and brain swelling.

Uses:

  • Severe allergic reactions & anaphylaxis (supportive)

  • Asthma & COPD exacerbations

  • Rheumatic & autoimmune disorders (arthritis, lupus)

  • Skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis, severe dermatitis)

  • Cerebral edema (brain swelling, meningitis, head injury)

  • Shock and critical illness (e.g., septic shock, COVID-19 ARDS as per protocol)

  • Certain cancers (as part of chemotherapy protocols)

Dosage & Administration:

  • Adults: 0.5–9 mg daily IV/IM depending on condition; in severe cases higher doses (e.g., 10–20 mg bolus IV) may be used.

  • Children: Dose individualized by weight and severity.

  • Route: Slow IV injection, IV infusion, or IM injection.

Side Effects: Increased blood sugar, fluid retention, weight gain, mood changes, headache, stomach irritation. Long-term: osteoporosis, eye problems, adrenal suppression, higher infection risk.

Precautions:

  • Avoid in systemic fungal infections and untreated serious infections.

  • Use cautiously in diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, liver/kidney impairment, peptic ulcer.

  • Not recommended in pregnancy unless prescribed.

  • Do not stop suddenly after long-term use (risk of adrenal crisis).

Drug Interactions:

  • Increased bleeding risk with anticoagulants (warfarin, heparin).

  • Reduces effect of vaccines.

  • May increase blood sugar → caution with antidiabetic medicines.

  • Additive gastric irritation with NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac).
