Description

Feburic 80 Tablet contains Febuxostat, a medicine that lowers uric acid levels by inhibiting the enzyme xanthine oxidase.
It is prescribed for patients with chronic gout and persistent hyperuricemia where lower doses are insufficient.

Uses / Indications

• Treatment of chronic gout (painful joint inflammation due to uric acid crystal deposits)

• Management of hyperuricemia in adults not responding to allopurinol or intolerant to it

• Prevents uric acid deposition in joints, kidneys, and tissues

Dosage (General Guidance)

(As prescribed by physician)

• Adults: 80 mg once daily; may be increased to 120 mg in severe cases

• Can be taken with or without food

• Regular monitoring of serum uric acid levels is necessary

Side Effects

• Nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain

• Headache, dizziness

• Joint pain (possible initial flare-up of gout)

• Rash, abnormal liver function tests

• Rare: Severe allergic reaction, cardiovascular events

Precautions / Warnings

• Not for use in asymptomatic hyperuricemia

• Caution in patients with heart disease, stroke, kidney or liver impairment

• Initial therapy may trigger gout flare-ups → doctor may prescribe NSAIDs or colchicine for prevention

• Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless essential

• Requires regular liver function and uric acid monitoring

Drug Interactions

• Azathioprine & Mercaptopurine (contraindicated – risk of toxicity)

• Theophylline (↑ side effects)

• Didanosine (↑ toxicity risk)
