Generic Composition:

• Glimepiride 2 mg (Sulfonylurea)

• Metformin Hydrochloride 1000 mg (Biguanide, sustained/extended release)

Description:

Gemer DS 2 Tablet is a dual-drug combination used in the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. It combines Glimepiride, which stimulates insulin release from the pancreas, and Metformin, which decreases glucose production in the liver, slows sugar absorption from the intestines, and enhances insulin sensitivity.

This synergy provides stronger glycemic control than either medicine alone, reducing both fasting and post-meal sugar levels while helping prevent long-term diabetes complications.

Uses:

• Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (when diet, exercise, and single therapy are insufficient)

• Reduces the risk of diabetes complications like kidney damage, neuropathy, retinopathy, heart attack, and stroke

Mechanism of Action:

• Glimepiride (2 mg): Stimulates pancreatic beta cells → increases insulin secretion → lowers blood glucose

• Metformin (1000 mg): Reduces hepatic glucose output, decreases intestinal glucose absorption, and improves tissue insulin sensitivity

• Combined effect: Effective control of both fasting and postprandial (after-meal) glucose

Dosage & Administration:

• Taken orally once or twice daily with meals (as prescribed by the doctor)

• Must be taken with food to minimize stomach upset and risk of hypoglycemia

• Swallow tablet whole with water — do not crush or chew

• Regular monitoring of blood sugar and HbA1c is required

Common Side Effects:

• Hypoglycemia: sweating, dizziness, hunger, tremors
