Description

Glimiprex 3 mg Tablet contains Glimepiride, an oral hypoglycemic medicine of the sulfonylurea class.
It is prescribed for patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus to help control blood sugar levels by:

• Stimulating pancreatic β-cells to release more insulin

• Improving the body’s response to insulin

It is generally used in patients requiring a moderate strength dose when 1 mg or 2 mg tablets are insufficient.

Uses / Indications

• Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (non-insulin dependent)

• Can be used alone or in combination with Metformin, Pioglitazone, or Insulin

• Helps reduce long-term risk of diabetic complications like kidney disease, neuropathy, retinopathy, and heart problems

Dosage (General Guidance)

(As prescribed by physician)

• Adults: Usually 1–4 mg once daily (3 mg given when moderate control is needed)

• Maximum dose: 6–8 mg/day

• Should be taken before or with breakfast at the same time daily

• Hypoglycemia (low sugar: sweating, shakiness, dizziness, hunger)

• Headache, nausea, stomach upset

• Weight gain (with long-term use)

• Rare: Liver enzyme elevation, blood disorders, allergic skin reactions

Precautions / Warnings

• Not suitable for Type 1 Diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis

• Risk of low blood sugar increases if meals are skipped, with excess alcohol, or during fasting

• Caution in patients with kidney or liver impairment

• Regular monitoring of blood sugar & HbA1c is recommended

• Insulin may be preferred in pregnancy & breastfeeding

Drug Interactions

• Alcohol (↑ risk of hypoglycemia)

• Beta-blockers (may mask hypoglycemia symptoms)

• Insulin & other oral antidiabetics (↑ risk of hypoglycemia)

• Corticosteroids, diuretics, thyroid hormones (↓ blood sugar control)
