Uses / Indications

Gudcef 50 Dry Syrup is prescribed for children (pediatric use) in:

  • Respiratory tract infections: pneumonia, bronchitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis

  • Ear, nose & throat (ENT) infections: otitis media, pharyngitis

  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

  • Skin & soft tissue infections (cellulitis, wound infection, abscess)

  • Mild gastrointestinal infections caused by susceptible bacteria


Mechanism of Action

  • Cefpodoxime (3rd gen cephalosporin):

    • Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis → weakens & kills bacteria

    • Active against a wide range of Gram-positive & Gram-negative bacteria

  • Designed specially for pediatric bacterial infections


Dosage & Administration

  • Children: Dose based on weight (mg/kg/day), usually divided every 12 hours, as per pediatrician’s advice

  • Reconstitution: Add boiled & cooled water to the dry powder up to the marked line → shake well

  • Shake bottle well before each dose

  • Administer with the provided measuring spoon/dropper

  • To be taken after meals for better absorption

  • Use reconstituted syrup within 7–10 days (store in refrigerator if advised)


Side Effects

  • Common: diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, mild rash

  • Rare: headache, dizziness, oral thrush (fungal infection)

  • Severe (rare): persistent diarrhea (C. difficile), jaundice, severe allergic reaction


Precautions & Warnings

  • Use strictly under pediatrician’s prescription

  • Not effective against viral infections (cold, flu)

  • Caution in children with kidney/liver disease or history of drug allergy

  • Discard leftover syrup after recommended usage period
