Description:

Jardiance 25 mg Tablet is an oral anti-diabetic medicine used to treat Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. It contains Empagliflozin, which belongs to the class of SGLT2 inhibitors (Sodium-Glucose Co-Transporter 2 inhibitors).

It helps lower blood sugar by blocking the SGLT2 protein in the kidneys, thereby preventing glucose reabsorption and increasing glucose excretion in urine. Along with controlling diabetes, Jardiance also provides cardiovascular benefits and is used to reduce the risk of heart failure and cardiovascular death in patients with diabetes and heart disease.

Uses:

• Control of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (with diet & exercise)

• Reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with Type 2 diabetes and heart disease

• Treatment of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction

• Improves glycemic control, reduces weight, and lowers blood pressure

Mechanism of Action:

• Inhibits SGLT2 (sodium-glucose co-transporter 2) in kidneys

• Prevents glucose reabsorption into the bloodstream

• Promotes urinary glucose excretion (glycosuria)

• Lowers blood sugar levels and body weight

• Provides heart and kidney protection

Dosage & Administration:

• Usual starting dose: 10 mg once daily

• Can be increased to 25 mg once daily if more control is needed and tolerated

• Can be taken with or without food

• Maintain hydration to avoid dehydration and dizziness

Common Side Effects:

• Frequent urination

• Genital fungal infections (thrush, yeast infection)

• Urinary tract infection (UTI)

• Thirst, dry mouth

Serious Side Effects (rare):

• Ketoacidosis (nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, confusion, rapid breathing)

• Severe UTI or kidney problems

• Fournier’s gangrene (rare but serious infection)

Warnings & Precautions:

• Not for Type 1 Diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis

• Use cautiously in patients with kidney disease, recurrent UTIs, or dehydration

• Monitor blood sugar, kidney function, and electrolytes regularly

• Maintain personal hygiene to reduce risk of infections

• Avoid excessive alcohol (increases risk of ketoacidosis)
