Composition

Each tablet contains:

• Losartan Potassium 25 mg

Uses / Indications

Losar 25mg Tablet is prescribed for:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – helps reduce and control BP.

• Heart Failure – improves survival and reduces hospitalizations.

• Diabetic Nephropathy (kidney disease in Type 2 Diabetes with high BP).

• Prevention of stroke and cardiovascular events in high-risk patients.

Mechanism of Action

• Losartan is an Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB).

• It blocks angiotensin II hormone → prevents blood vessel constriction.

• Relaxes and widens blood vessels → lowers blood pressure.

• Improves blood flow and reduces strain on the heart.

Dosage & Administration

• Usual adult dose: 25–50 mg once daily.

• Can be increased to 100 mg daily depending on patient’s response.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Take at the same time each day.

• Do not stop suddenly without doctor’s advice.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Dizziness, headache

• Tiredness, weakness

• Stomach upset

• Low blood pressure

Serious but rare:

• High potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

• Kidney function impairment

• Severe allergic reactions (swelling, breathing difficulty)

Precautions & Warnings

• Use with caution in patients with:

  • Kidney or liver disease

  • Electrolyte imbalance (high potassium)

Drug Interactions

• Other antihypertensive medicines (additive effect)

• Potassium supplements / potassium-sparing diuretics

• NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac – may reduce effect & harm kidneys)

• Lithium (may increase toxicity risk)
