Metolar XR 100mg Tablet is prescribed for:

Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – moderate to severe cases

Angina (chest pain due to reduced oxygen to the heart)

Heart Failure (as part of combination therapy, with careful monitoring)

Mechanism of Action
-
Metoprolol is a Beta-1 Selective Blocker.

Reduces heart rate & pumping force → lowers BP.
-
Decreases oxygen demand of the heart → prevents angina.

Stabilizes abnormal heart rhythms.

XR (Extended-Release) formulation → maintains steady 24-hour effect with once-daily dosing.
Dosage & Administration

Usual adult dose: 25–200 mg once daily (depends on condition & patient response).

100 mg once daily is a common maintenance dose for hypertension, angina, or arrhythmias.

Swallow whole with water – do not crush or chew (extended-release formulation).

Best taken with or after meals for better absorption.

Do not stop suddenly – may cause rebound hypertension, chest pain, or arrhythmias.
