Description

Monocef 500 Injection contains Ceftriaxone, a broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic. It is used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections including those of the lungs, urinary tract, skin, bones, joints, abdomen, and blood (septicemia). It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, thereby killing the bacteria.


Uses of Monocef 500 Injection

  • Respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis)

  • Urinary tract infections (UTI)

  • Skin and soft tissue infections

  • Bone and joint infections

  • Intra-abdominal infections (peritonitis)

  • Septicemia (blood infection)

  • Meningitis (brain infection)

  • Typhoid fever

  • Post-surgical infections


Dosage & Administration

  • Adults: As prescribed, usually 500 mg – 2 g once or twice daily depending on severity

  • Route: Intravenous (IV) infusion/slow injection or deep intramuscular (IM) injection

Side Effects

  • Pain, redness at injection site

  • Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting

Precautions

  • Avoid if allergic to Cephalosporins, Penicillins, or related antibiotics

  • Use cautiously in patients with kidney or liver disease

  • Complete the full course of therapy; do not stop early


Drug Interactions

  • May interact with anticoagulants (blood thinners)

  • Should not be mixed with calcium-containing IV solutions (risk of precipitation)

  • May alter effects of other antibiotics when used together
