Each tablet contains:

  • Nebivolol 2.5 mg


Uses / Indications

Nebistar 2.5mg Tablet is prescribed for:

  • Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)

  • Chronic Heart Failure (mild to moderate, as add-on therapy)

  • Angina (chest pain due to heart disease) – off-label use

  • Arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat) – off-label use


Mechanism of Action

  • Nebivolol is a highly selective Beta-1 Blocker with additional vasodilatory properties.

  • It lowers heart rate and cardiac output → reduces blood pressure.

  • It increases nitric oxide release in blood vessels → causes vasodilation (widening of blood vessels).

  • This dual effect provides better blood pressure control with less risk of fatigue and cold extremities compared to older beta-blockers.


Dosage & Administration

  • Usual adult dose: 2.5–5 mg once daily.

  • 2.5 mg once daily is often the starting dose, especially in elderly or kidney-impaired patients.

  • Can be taken with or without food.

  • Take at the same time every day.

  • Do not stop suddenly – may cause rebound hypertension or angina.


Side Effects

Common side effects:

  • Headache, dizziness

  • Fatigue, weakness

  • Slow heartbeat (bradycardia)

  • Stomach upset, nausea

  • Insomnia or sleep disturbances

Serious but rare:

  • Severe low heart rate or BP

  • Shortness of breath (rare in sensitive patients)

  • Worsening of heart failure

  • Depression (uncommon)


Precautions & Warnings

  • Use cautiously in patients with:

    • Heart block or severe bradycardia

    • Heart failure (unless closely monitored)

    • Kidney or liver disease

    • Asthma/COPD (safer than non-selective beta-blockers but still caution needed)

  • Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless prescribed.

  • Avoid alcohol (may worsen dizziness).

  • Regular monitoring of BP and heart rate is important.


Drug Interactions

  • Other antihypertensives (extra BP lowering)

  • Antiarrhythmics (digoxin, amiodarone – risk of bradycardia)

  • Insulin/antidiabetic medicines (may mask low blood sugar symptoms)

  • NSAIDs (may reduce BP-lowering effect)
