Description

Oflomac Suspension contains Ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, specially formulated for children.
It works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, preventing bacterial replication and killing bacteria.
It is prescribed in pediatric bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, gastrointestinal tract, and skin.

Uses / Indications

• Respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, pharyngitis)

• ENT infections (otitis media, sinusitis)

• Gastrointestinal infections (diarrhea, dysentery, typhoid fever)

• Urinary tract infections (UTI)

• Skin & soft tissue infections

Dosage (General Guidance)

(Strictly as per pediatrician’s advice)

• Children: Commonly 5–10 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses (as Ofloxacin component)

• Duration: Usually 5–10 days depending on severity

Reconstitution & Use (if dry syrup form):

• Add boiled & cooled water up to the mark, shake well

• Shake before each use

• Use measuring cup/syringe for accurate dosing

• Best given before meals unless stomach upset occurs

• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset

• Headache, dizziness

• Rash, itching (allergy)

• Rare: Joint pain, tendon inflammation (fluoroquinolone-related), seizures, liver enzyme elevation

Precautions / Warnings

• Not for viral infections (cold, flu)

• Use with caution in children (fluoroquinolones generally avoided unless necessary due to risk of joint/tendon issues)

• Avoid in pregnancy & breastfeeding women

• Complete full prescribed course to prevent bacterial resistance

Drug Interactions

• Antacids, calcium/iron/zinc supplements (↓ absorption of Ofloxacin)

• Warfarin (↑ bleeding risk)

• Steroids (↑ tendon rupture risk)

• Certain heart rhythm medicines (↑ QT prolongation risk)
