Uses / Indications

Olmat 20mg Tablet is prescribed for:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – helps maintain normal BP.

• Reducing the risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney complications due to uncontrolled hypertension.

• Protects kidney health in patients with Type 2 Diabetes & hypertension.

• Can be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive medicines.

Mechanism of Action

• Olmesartan is an Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB).

• Blocks angiotensin II hormone → prevents narrowing of blood vessels.

• Relaxes and widens arteries → lowers blood pressure.

• Improves circulation and reduces strain on the heart.

Dosage & Administration

• Usual adult dose: 20 mg once daily.

• If required, dose may be increased up to 40 mg once daily.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Take at the same time each day.

• Do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Dizziness, headache

• Fatigue, weakness

• Stomach upset, diarrhea

• Muscle pain

Serious but rare:

• Severe low blood pressure

• High potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

• Impaired kidney function

• Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)

Precautions & Warnings

  • Kidney or liver disease

  • Heart failure

  • Electrolyte imbalance (high potassium)

Drug Interactions

• Other antihypertensive medicines

• Potassium supplements / potassium-sparing diuretics

• NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac – may reduce effect & harm kidneys)

• Lithium (risk of toxicity)
