Composition

Each tablet contains:

• Olmesartan Medoxomil 40 mg

Uses / Indications

Olmat 40mg Tablet is prescribed for:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – for patients not adequately controlled with 20mg dose.

• Long-term prevention of heart attack, stroke, and kidney complications due to high BP.

• Protection of kidneys in patients with Type 2 Diabetes and hypertension.

• Can be used alone or in combination therapy with other antihypertensive medicines.

Mechanism of Action

• Olmesartan belongs to Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs).

• Blocks the effect of angiotensin II hormone → prevents tightening of blood vessels.

• Relaxes and widens arteries → lowers blood pressure.

• Improves blood flow and reduces strain on the heart.

Dosage & Administration

• Usual adult dose: 20–40 mg once daily.

• 40 mg once daily is the maximum recommended dose.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Should be taken at the same time each day.

• Do not stop suddenly without doctor’s advice.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Dizziness, headache

• Tiredness, weakness

• Stomach upset, diarrhea

• Muscle/joint pain

Serious but rare:

• Very low blood pressure

• High potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

• Kidney impairment

• Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty)

Precautions & Warnings

• Use with caution in patients with:

  • Kidney or liver problems

  • Heart failure

  • Electrolyte imbalance (high potassium levels)

• Not safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

• Avoid alcohol (may worsen dizziness).

• Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and potassium levels is advised.

Drug Interactions

• Other antihypertensives (additive effect)

• Potassium supplements / potassium-sparing diuretics

• NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac – may reduce effect & damage kidneys)

• Lithium (risk of toxicity)
