Composition

Each tablet contains:

• Olmesartan Medoxomil 20 mg (Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker – ARB)

• Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg (Thiazide Diuretic – water pill)

Uses / Indications

Olmat-H 20/12.5 Tablet is prescribed for:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – when BP is not controlled by single medicine.

• Reducing long-term risk of stroke, heart attack, and kidney complications.

• Useful in patients with fluid retention (edema) due to its diuretic action.

Mechanism of Action

• Olmesartan (ARB): Blocks angiotensin II → relaxes and widens blood vessels → lowers BP.

• Hydrochlorothiazide (Diuretic): Increases urine output → removes excess salt & water → reduces BP.

• Together they provide synergistic blood pressure control.

Dosage & Administration

• Usual adult dose: 1 tablet once daily.

• Take at the same time each day.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Do not stop without consulting a doctor.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Dizziness, headache

• Increased urination

• Weakness, tiredness

• Stomach upset

Serious but rare:

• Very low blood pressure

• High potassium (from Olmesartan) or low potassium (from HCTZ)

• Kidney function impairment

• Severe allergic reactions (swelling, rash, breathing difficulty)

Precautions & Warnings

• Use with caution in patients with:

  • Kidney or liver disease

  • Heart failure

  • Electrolyte imbalance (low sodium, high/low potassium)

• Not safe in pregnancy or breastfeeding.

• Avoid alcohol (may worsen dizziness).

• Regular monitoring of BP, kidney function, and electrolytes is recommended.

Drug Interactions

• Other antihypertensives (extra BP lowering effect)

• Potassium supplements / potassium-sparing diuretics

• NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac – may reduce effectiveness & harm kidneys)

• Lithium (risk of toxicity)

• Antidiabetic medicines (HCTZ may affect blood sugar levels)
