Each tablet contains:

• Olmesartan Medoxomil 40 mg

Uses / Indications

Olmecip 40mg Tablet is prescribed for:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – for patients not controlled with the 20mg dose.

• Reducing the risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney complications caused by uncontrolled BP.

• Protecting kidney health in patients with Type 2 Diabetes and hypertension.

• Often used alone or in combination therapy with other BP-lowering medicines.

Mechanism of Action

• Olmesartan is an Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB).

• Blocks angiotensin II hormone → prevents narrowing of blood vessels.

• Relaxes and widens arteries → lowers blood pressure.

• Improves circulation and reduces strain on the heart.

Dosage & Administration

• Usual adult dose: 20–40 mg once daily.

• 40 mg daily is the maximum recommended dose.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Should be taken at the same time daily.

• Do not stop suddenly without medical supervision.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Dizziness, headache

• Fatigue, weakness

• Stomach upset, diarrhea

• Muscle/joint pain

Serious but rare:

• Severe low blood pressure

• High potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

• Impaired kidney function

• Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)

Precautions & Warnings

• Use with caution in patients with:

  • Kidney or liver problems

  • Heart failure

  • Electrolyte imbalance (high potassium)

• Not safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

• Avoid alcohol (may worsen dizziness).

• Regular monitoring of BP, kidney function, and potassium levels is advised.

Drug Interactions

• Other antihypertensive drugs (additive effect)

• Potassium supplements / potassium-sparing diuretics

• NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac – may reduce effect & damage kidneys)

• Lithium (risk of toxicity)
