Each tablet contains:

• Olmesartan Medoxomil 20 mg

Uses / Indications

Olmezest 20mg Tablet is prescribed for:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – controls and maintains normal blood pressure.

• Reduces risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney complications due to uncontrolled BP.

• Provides kidney protection in patients with Type 2 Diabetes and hypertension.

• May be prescribed alone or with other antihypertensive medicines.

Mechanism of Action

• Olmesartan is an Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB).

• Blocks angiotensin II hormone → prevents tightening of blood vessels.

• Relaxes and dilates arteries → lowers blood pressure.

• Improves blood flow and reduces strain on the heart.

Dosage & Administration

• Usual adult dose: 20 mg once daily.

• Dose may be increased up to 40 mg once daily if required.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Take at the same time daily.

• Do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Dizziness, lightheadedness

• Headache, fatigue

• Stomach upset, diarrhea

• Muscle pain

Serious but rare:

• Severe low blood pressure

• High potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

• Kidney impairment

• Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)

Precautions & Warnings

• Use cautiously in patients with:

  • Kidney or liver disease

  • Heart failure

  • Electrolyte imbalance (high potassium)

• Not safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

• Avoid alcohol (may worsen dizziness).

• Regular monitoring of BP, kidney function, and potassium levels is necessary.

Drug Interactions

• Other antihypertensive drugs (additive effect)

• Potassium supplements / potassium-sparing diuretics

• NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac – may reduce effect & damage kidneys)

• Lithium (may increase toxicity risk)
