Uses / Indications

Olmezest 40mg Tablet is prescribed for:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – for patients not controlled on 20 mg.

• Reduces the risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney complications caused by high BP.

• Provides kidney protection in patients with Type 2 Diabetes and hypertension.

• Can be used alone or in combination with other BP medicines like diuretics or calcium channel blockers.

Mechanism of Action

• Olmesartan belongs to the class Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs).

• It blocks angiotensin II hormone → prevents narrowing of blood vessels.

• Relaxes and widens arteries → lowers blood pressure.

• Improves blood flow and reduces workload on the heart.

Dosage & Administration

• Usual adult dose: 20–40 mg once daily.

• 40 mg daily is the maximum recommended dose.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Take at the same time every day.

• Do not discontinue suddenly without consulting your doctor.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Dizziness, headache

• Tiredness, weakness

• Stomach upset, diarrhea

• Muscle or joint pain

Serious but rare:

• Severe low blood pressure

• High potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

• Kidney function impairment

• Severe allergic reaction (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)

Precautions & Warnings

  • Kidney or liver disease

  • Electrolyte imbalance (high potassium)

Drug Interactions

• Other antihypertensives (additive effect)

• Potassium supplements / potassium-sparing diuretics

• NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac – may reduce effectiveness & affect kidneys)

• Lithium (increased toxicity risk)
