Composition

Each tablet contains:

• Ramipril 10 mg

Uses / Indications

Remistar 10mg Tablet is prescribed for:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – for patients not controlled with lower doses (2.5mg/5mg).

• Heart Failure – improves survival and reduces hospitalizations.

• Post-Myocardial Infarction (after heart attack) – prevents recurrence and reduces future complications.

• Long-term prevention of stroke, kidney disease, and cardiovascular complications in high-risk patients (diabetes, chronic kidney disease, coronary artery disease).

Mechanism of Action

• Ramipril is an ACE Inhibitor (Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitor).

• Inhibits conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II → prevents narrowing of blood vessels.

• Relaxes and widens arteries → lowers blood pressure.

• Reduces workload on the heart, improves blood flow, and protects kidneys.

Dosage & Administration

• Usual adult dose: 2.5–10 mg daily.

• 10 mg once daily is usually the maximum recommended dose.

• Dose must be individualized depending on blood pressure and response.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Should be taken at the same time each day.

• Do not discontinue without medical advice.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Dizziness, headache

• Persistent dry cough (common with ACE inhibitors)

• Weakness, tiredness

• Stomach upset

Serious but rare:

• Severe low blood pressure (hypotension)

• High potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

• Impaired kidney function

• Angioedema (severe swelling of face/throat – emergency condition)

Precautions & Warnings

• Use cautiously in patients with:

  • Kidney or liver impairment

  • Heart failure

  • Electrolyte imbalance (especially high potassium)

• Not safe in pregnancy or breastfeeding.

• Avoid alcohol (may worsen dizziness).

• Regular monitoring of BP, kidney function, and potassium is required.

Drug Interactions

• Other antihypertensives (additive effect)

• Potassium supplements / potassium-sparing diuretics

• NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac – may reduce effectiveness & harm kidneys)

• Lithium (may increase toxicity risk)
