Composition

Each tablet contains:

• Ramipril 5 mg

Uses / Indications

Remistar 5mg Tablet is prescribed for:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – commonly used strength to lower and maintain BP.

• Heart Failure – improves heart function and reduces hospitalizations.

• Post-Myocardial Infarction (after heart attack) – lowers risk of recurrence and further complications.

• Prevention of stroke, kidney damage, and cardiovascular complications in high-risk patients (like diabetes or chronic kidney disease).

Mechanism of Action

• Ramipril is an ACE Inhibitor (Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitor).

• Blocks conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II → prevents blood vessel narrowing.

• Relaxes and widens arteries → lowers blood pressure.

• Improves blood circulation, reduces strain on the heart, and protects kidneys.

Dosage & Administration

• Usual adult dose: 2.5–10 mg daily.

• 5 mg once daily is a standard maintenance dose.

• Dose may be increased up to 10 mg daily depending on BP and patient response.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Should be taken at the same time daily.

• Do not stop suddenly without doctor’s advice.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Dizziness, headache

• Dry cough (common with ACE inhibitors)

• Fatigue, weakness

• Nausea, stomach upset

Serious but rare:

• Very low blood pressure

• High potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

• Kidney impairment

• Severe allergic reactions (angioedema – swelling of face/throat, difficulty breathing)

Precautions & Warnings

• Use cautiously in patients with:

  • Kidney or liver disease

  • Heart failure

  • Electrolyte imbalance (high potassium)

• Not safe in pregnancy or breastfeeding.

• Avoid alcohol (may worsen dizziness).

• Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and potassium levels is advised.

Drug Interactions

• Other antihypertensive medicines

• Potassium supplements / potassium-sparing diuretics

• NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac – may reduce effectiveness & harm kidneys)

• Lithium (increased toxicity risk)
