Composition

Each tablet contains:

• Telmisartan 50 mg (Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker – ARB)

• Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg (Thiazide Diuretic – water pill)

Uses / Indications

Tazloc-H 50/12.5 Tablet is prescribed for:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – especially when a single medicine is not enough.

• Reducing long-term risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney damage due to uncontrolled BP.

• Provides additional benefit in patients with fluid retention or swelling (due to diuretic effect).

Mechanism of Action

• Telmisartan (ARB): Blocks angiotensin II receptors → prevents blood vessel constriction → lowers BP.

• Hydrochlorothiazide (Diuretic): Increases urine output → reduces excess salt & water → lowers BP.

• Together, they give synergistic control of blood pressure.

Dosage & Administration

• Usual adult dose: 1 tablet once daily.

• Should be taken at the same time each day.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Do not discontinue without doctor’s advice.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Dizziness, headache

• Increased urination

• Weakness, tiredness

• Stomach upset

Serious but rare:

• Very low blood pressure

• High potassium (from telmisartan) or low potassium (from HCTZ)

• Kidney impairment

• Severe allergic reaction (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty)

Precautions & Warnings

• Use cautiously in patients with:

  • Kidney or liver disease

  • Heart problems

  • Electrolyte imbalance (low sodium, high/low potassium)

• Not safe in pregnancy or breastfeeding.

• Avoid alcohol (may worsen dizziness).

• Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolytes is required.

Drug Interactions

• Other antihypertensives (additive effect)

• Potassium supplements / potassium-sparing diuretics

• NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac – may reduce effect & harm kidneys)

• Lithium (increased risk of toxicity)

• Antidiabetic medicines (HCTZ may alter blood sugar control)
